Junior Program

It’s never too early to start helping!

VRS sponsors a program for young men and women who are between the ages of 14 and 18 years old, to promote confidence, responsibility and leadership skills, while teaching the importance of community service.

Junior volunteers are those individuals who taken the responsibility of providing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to our community.  Junior Volunteers are assigned a crew when they arrive for a shift. There is no minimum number of hours for juniors.  All junior volunteers must maintain current applicable cards and BBP/OSHA requirements at all times.  These include CPR and First aid as a minimum.

All junior trainees must complete the appropriate Categories of Junior Field Training and Evaluation Program (JFTEP).  All junior trainees must have a CPR card and appropriate certification card (First Aid or CFR) if applicable prior to riding on a VRS ambulance.  All new junior trainees are required to attend the next available OSHA/BBP class.  During the JFTEP process, junior trainees will be assigned to a Field Training Crew (FTC)/FTO each shift.   The JFTEP process will take a varying amount of time for each junior trainee based on the individual’s level of experience.

The VRS Junior Program is a healthy venue for area youth and provides a pathway for identifying and training new VRS volunteers or career staff.
